Motorcycle insurance?
by Dan
I am looking to get a motorcycle in the future and I know it takes time and money, but most people do not ride in the winter (NJ), so my question is, can I cancel my motorcycle insurance during winter months, so I am not paying all year round? Also, are there any reprocussions to doing this?
Thanks.

Call Geico - that's who my hubby has his cycle insurance with and he's totally happy with them. I'm sure they would be happy to answer any questions you may have!

when you sign on just sign on for a certain amount of time. But dont drive it if you do not have the insurance another thing you have to worry about is the registration! If it needs to be renewed within the time that you do not have insurance you may have a problem.

You really have to ask a broker there, because different jurisdictions may have different rules. In Manitoba, you would not cancel your insurance, because the premium is earned over the riding months. So, over the winter, you may be paying 5 or 10 dollars a month at most for registration and comprehensive, and full premiums in the summer, but, your coverage does not actually change. If there is an early spring, you can ride, if there is a really great day in the winter, you can ride, and don't have to make any changes.
We have the same idea with boat insurance, which is not meant to be cancelled as the premium is earned over the boating season, and snowmobile insurance, where the premium is earned over the winter riding season.
